Caro Emerald preview, The Penthouse at 1 Leicester Square

In a setting high above the Empire cinema in Leicester Square, Caro Emerald gave a wonderful performance to a select crowd of music industry insiders. The story of Caro Emerald and ‘Back It Up’ is a true example of how word-of-mouth can lead to an overnight smash. An impromptu performance of the song on a local TV station in her native Holland led to an overwhelming clamour to hear more of this exciting new singer.

Her sound is described as ‘Neo swing’ by some, and ‘like Kate Nash, but good’ by cultural barometer Pip in Wonderland. Caro’s planned second single ‘A night like this’ was stuck in my head for the rest of the evening, a good sign surely. Watch this space…
