To celebrate the launch of Forza 4 on the Xbox, LDNISTA and co were exclusively invited to the newly refurbished personal shopping area in Topman’s Oxford Street store to be amongst the first to play the game. The game itself looked impressive, and even gave you an opportunity to use the streets of London as a racetrack, but as someone without a TV, let alone an Xbox, I wasn’t the best at controlling where the car went; and I ended up coming 8th place in a fair few races!
Much more exciting for me was the opportunity to be styled in the latest trends by the talented Topman personal styling team. The personal shopping area has recently received a style makeover of its own by top interior designer Lee Broom, with ready to wear outfits showcased along every wall. After a quick chat with a stylist about the kind of clothes I liked, and a walk through of the shop floor to see the latest items, my friends and I relaxed with Coke and pretzels as a selection of suitable pieces were pulled from the shelf.
As my friends got to grips with Forza 4 and flicked through fashion magazines, I tried on pieces from my own rail of blazers, trousers and winter sweaters. The first suit I tried on didn’t fit quite right, but the second item, a grey herringbone blazer from the ‘Heritage’ range fitted like a glove. The same went for a pair of dark maroon/brown trousers in a fabulous stretchy and lustrous fabric which made them appear very luxe and fitted.
I also tried on a series of warm wooly jumpers, to which reactions ranged from ‘Wouldn’t want that as a scratchy Christmas present, to ‘Wow your shoulders look so big – in a good way!’. While it’s not that I like to be the centre of attention (most of the time, anyway) it felt great to have clothes chosen for me by an expert.
When the hour was up, it was obvious which clothes had gone down well (three cheers for shopping by committee), so I paid up and dashed off to my next engagement. I have to say, this was the ideal way to shop for clothes. If you have an hour to spare, I’d recommend you contact the guys and book an appointment ASAP. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, not pushy in slightest – and, of course, incredibly well dressed!
