Gay Pride London 2011, Regent Street parade
London Pride 2011 marks the first occasion I’ve actually been part of the Pride London march. I’ve often watched from the sidelines, or ended up at Trafalgar Square once things were winding down, but this time I was right in the action. Press accreditation was granted to LDNISTA, so my intern Isobel and I found ourselves in the front row.
The outfits, as expected, were wild and out of control, but it was the people that really struck me. Everyone was having such a good time! The crowd was cheering on every group of marchers, from Gay Quakers to GLBT Tesco workers! Nobody was made to feel left out.
Nothing can top the exhillaration of hearing a thousand whistles being played alongside a horn rendition of Bad Romance, or an impromptu dance performance from the Rainbow Cheerleaders.
Isobel and I danced along to every song, cheered every group and shared in an incredible moment of pure unity. The theme of this year’s Pride was Carnival of Love, and boy did it live up to it’s name.
