Selfridges is known for attracting the best of the best to their events, especially if the occasion is in aid of a good cause. The launch of the Oxfam Curiosity Shop at Selfridges saw Annie Lennox hosted, with Livia and Colin Firth kick things off with a bang.
The launch event, held in Selfridges’ car park, welcomed special guests including Rupert Friend, Imogen Heap, Simon Fuller, Lorraine Pascale, Zoe Ball, Lisa Snowdon and Annie Lennox’s daughter, model Tali.
The Oxfam Curiosity Shop is the world’s largest Oxfam shop and is open exclusively for 10 days until Sunday 10th April in Selfridges’ lower-ground floor exhibition space, the Ultralounge and also online here.
This is the second edition of the Oxfam Curiosity Shop, first launched last year and which raised £250,000 during its entire run. This year, the launch event has already generated over £215,000 in less than 2 hours – so things are looking good for this year’s grand total.
Ruby Wax hosted the launch auction where 12 lots were up for grabs including a star prize of Annie Lennox singing songs for by members of the audience to the tune of £15,000 each. She sang Why?; Sister Are Doing It For Themselves; Sweet Dreams and Angel whilst playing her own piano accompaniment.
Items available for the rest of this week include a suit from Lude Law. I’m sure we’re the same size, so this one is top of my list…
In total, over 3,000 fashion pieces will be up for grabs with donation from dozens of celebrities including Kate Moss, Scarlett Johansson, Colin and Livia Firth, Dannii Minogue, Beverly Knight, David Walliams, Jonathan Ross, Laura Bailey.
All the money raised will go to fund Oxfam’s women’s projects across the world from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to Democratic Republic of Congo, West Africa and South Africa.
